How to Make (and Publish) a Book

My 6-year-old granddaughter, Belle, gave me this for my birthday.

how to make a book

1. Sloppy coppy
2. rite
3. dro pickshers
4. dummy (osomy)*
5. read over
6. puplish
7. love the book or don't love the book

*Belle felt that "dummy" was mean and proposed "osomy"—her spelling of "awesome-y"—as an alternative.

She added #7 just for me, because I'm a "puplisher." If there is anything about the whole process that is missing from this list, I don't know what it is.

"love the book or don't love the book" are words to live by.

And that's all she wrote.

  1. Apparently "puplish" is the correct spelling: http://jjhoutman.livejournal.com/2010/03/15/

  2. I totally agree about the osomy. Totally. And I'd say little Belle is pretty osomy herself!

  4. I am going to let this list inspire me each day. I may let it inspire my authors too - especially the part that simply accepts that step 1 is "sloppy copy."

  5. That is quite impressive for a 6-year-old from a teacher's perspective. I'd say it's a pretty sufficient list, too, and would make a great cut-to-the-chase guide. "Sorry, writer - you forgot step 4 -it's not 'osomy'."
